Healthy community environments support physical activity by offering green spaces, parks, walking paths and access to outdoor recreation opportunities, and more - empowering citizens to lead more physically active lives.

Being physically active reduces the risk of many chronic conditions, and several major cancers including colon, breast and endometrial cancers. For example, an Alberta study estimated that in 2012, approximately 1300 cancer cases were attributable to insufficient physical activity. Physical activity also improves mental health.1
